1. Stay safe first

• The type of door, such as a front door, apartment door or shopfront
• The type of lock, if you know it
• Whether the key is lost, locked inside or broken in the lock

4. Have proof you are allowed inside

A locksmith needs to confirm that you are entitled to enter the property. Have ID ready. If it is locked inside, something with your name and the address on it, such as a lease or bill, can help after entry.

5. Think about the keys afterwards
